Training pathway
Competency framework
The JETS Workforce competency framework contains a list competencies and sub competencies, related to endoscopy. The framework has three levels and a total of five sections. To evidence the competencies, you are required to submit direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS), witness statements and reflective statements that combine to create a platform for the endoscopy workforce to record and evidence their skills, knowledge, and abilities.
eLearning modules
The eLearning modules have been developed by a group of experts in endoscopy. Prior to attending an ENDO1 course, delegates are required to complete the nine eLearning modules. This will vary for services depending on where they are based and what sector they work within.
Training courses
Each level of the programme has a training course, designed to complement the competencies and eLearning.
The ENDO1 course covers content including professional issues in endoscopy, consent, pre assessment, infection control, amongst others. The course lasts 2.5 hours and is run by trained faculty.
The ENDO2 course is aimed at staff who assist with or care for patients undergoing moderate to complex endoscopic procedures and already have established competencies and eLearning. This course is only available at Hospitals, Academies/Health boards and lasts approximately 6 hours
The ENDO3 course is a management and leadership course designed to support leaders and managers in endoscopy. The course is held face to face and lasts a full day.
Mandated training
Elements of the JETS Workforce training programme are mandated through the JAG accreditation programme for services in the UK. This does not apply to services in the Republic of Ireland.
What does the mandate include?
Any service applying for accreditation or reaccreditation needs to demonstrate that 25% of all healthcare professionals (includes bands 2-8) involved in the endoscopy patient pathway have completed and evidenced:
Level one eLearning modules (before ENDO1)
ENDO1 foundation and decontamination course
This is a level B standard and a requirement for services undergoing reaccreditation or accreditation. This will not affect annual reviews and will only need to be evidenced as part of a service's JAG site assessment.
In addition, to this standard, there is a level A standard that stipulates that 10% of staff in a service to have completed the level one JETS Workforce competencies. This standard is not a requirement for accreditation.

Time commitment
In order for staff in your service to complete the requirements detailed above, they will need to be allocated time to complete the eLearning modules and the ENDO1 course. Approximate time commitment for staff:
